Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser
From the very beginning of creation, God has been a God who speaks. His voice called light out of darkness, shaped the heavens and the earth, and breathed life into humanity. Throughout Scripture, we see Him whispering to hearts, guiding His people, giving wisdom, direction, and hope. And today – right now – that same God still desires to speak. Maybe you’ve wondered if God has something to say to you. Maybe life has felt noisy, crowded, or confusing. Perhaps you’ve questioned whether God still speaks, or if He hears you at all. But hear this: God is nearer than you think… and He is speaking. This article is a reminder and an invitation. God wants to speak to you! Will you make room to listen?
One of the most exciting pieces of news you can hear is that God wants to speak to you, and you can hear His voice. If you’ve been struggling with the thought that perhaps God isn’t speaking to you or that He doesn’t communicate at all, I encourage you to cultivate a vibrant relationship with Him, filled with expectation, because He truly desires to speak to you. To hear God’s voice, you must first believe that He actually speaks to people, and that He wants to speak to you personally. If you don’t believe that God communicates with people or that He wishes to speak with you, you will find it difficult to hear from Him. Many people doubt that God wants to speak to them. They might find it strange or abnormal to hear someone say, “The Lord said this to me” or “I heard from the Lord.” Others may believe that God speaks to people in general but not to them specifically. Let me assure you that it is biblical to hear God’s voice. Throughout the Bible, we see that God desires to communicate with us, and that people can indeed hear His voice.
If you haven’t already been hearing God on a regular basis, you must be eager to experience that in your life. Let’s turn to the Word of God to explore whether God actually speaks to people and if He wants to speak to you. In Genesis 1:27-28, after God created Adam in His own image, the first thing He did was talk to him. This reveals that it was God’s plan and desire from the very beginning to communicate with His people. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” In verse 28, it says, 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
The God we serve is a God who speaks to His people, and this is evident throughout Scripture.
In Genesis 4, it says that the Lord spoke to Cain.
In Genesis 7, the Lord spoke to Noah.
In Genesis 12, the Lord spoke to Abram.
In Genesis 26, the Lord appeared to Isaac and spoke to him.
In Genesis 31, the Lord spoke to Jacob.
In Exodus 6, God spoke to Moses.
In Joshua 1:1, the Lord spoke to Joshua.
The God we serve is a God who communicates with His people. This is evident in the New Testament, where Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit. He said, “For He will not speak of Himself, but whatever He hears, that will He speak.” The Holy Spirit indeed speaks. In Acts 8:29, it says that the Spirit spoke to Philip. Similarly, Acts 10:19 states that the Spirit spoke to Peter.
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is meant to communicate with us, and we are meant to hear His voice. In John 10:27, Jesus states, “My sheep hear my voice.” This means that the God we serve is a God who speaks to His people. The Holy Spirit is speaking; God wants to talk to us, and we can hear His voice. How exciting is that? As you read this article, I encourage you to repeat after me: “God wants to speak to me, and I can hear His voice.” Let’s say it again: “God wants to speak to me, and I can hear His voice.” One more time: “God wants to speak to me, and I can hear His voice.”
" To hear God’s voice, you need to dedicate time to Him. "
God has not changed. In Malachi 3:6, He says, “I am the Lord, and I change not.” Similarly, in Hebrews 13:8, it states, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” However, many people like to pretend otherwise. They might say, “Sure, God used to speak to people in biblical times, but He doesn’t do that anymore.” The truth is, God hasn’t changed at all. The same God who communicated with His people back then is the same God who wants to communicate with His people today. It is truly marvellous to know that God wants to speak to me. In Psalm 50:7, the Lord says, “Hear, O My people, and I will speak.” God longs to talk to you, and He desires for you to hear His voice. Isn’t that exciting news?
To hear God’s voice, you need to dedicate time to Him. God desires to speak to you if you provide Him with that time. Just as Samuel said, “Master, speak; your servant is listening,” God wants to communicate with you. His messages will be crystal clear if you are willing to listen. If you are one of His sheep but find yourself wondering, “Why can’t I hear God?” it may be because His voice is being drowned out by other distractions, such as your own thoughts. Often, we allow the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lust for other things to choke the Word. Do you want to hear His voice? Begin with the Word of God. If you ask anything according to His will, He hears you and will answer your prayers.
1 John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him”. The issue is not with God. If you take the time to focus on Him and disconnect from everything else, you’ll find clarity. This means not only fasting from food but also fasting from distractions that occupy your mind. Turn off all distractions and centre yourself in the presence of the Lord. Worship Him, and you will hear from God. Let me emphasise this: God desires to speak to you. If you give Him the time, His message will become crystal clear. He wants us to prioritise listening to Him above all else. The truth is that each of us has priorities in our lives, which vary in different areas. If you were to ask people what their number one priority is, you would likely get many different responses. However, the Bible makes it clear from Jesus’s perspective what our top priority in life should be.

He wants us to prioritise listening to Him above everything else. The truth is, each of us has different priorities in our lives, which can vary across various areas. If you were to ask people what their number one priority is, you would likely receive many different answers. However, the Bible clearly indicates, from Jesus’s perspective, what our top priority in life should be.
In Luke 10:38-42, we read about Jesus’s visit to the home of Mary and Martha. While Martha busied herself with serving, she grew resentful of her sister Mary, who chose to sit and listen to Jesus’s words. When Martha complained to Jesus about this, He corrected her, saying that Mary had made the better choice. Martha’s desire to serve was commendable – many other women ministered to Jesus without being reprimanded. However, Martha’s focus was misguided. Having Jesus in her home was a tremendous honour, and hearing His personal teachings was a privilege. Mary recognised this opportunity and was eager to listen, while Martha was more concerned with her tasks. Today, many people find themselves preoccupied with busy work in service, just like Martha. However, what Jesus truly desires is that we take the time to sit at His feet and listen to His words. It’s relatively easy to identify and turn away from overt sins, but we must also prioritise even good activities to ensure that they do not overshadow our relationship with Jesus. Our first priority should always be to know Him, listen to Him, and seek the Kingdom of God above all else.
God wants to speak to you, so make time for Him. He desires to guide your paths, reveal things to come, and show you the enemy’s plans. Isn’t it exciting that the Lord who created the heavens and the earth wants to communicate with you? Take the time to listen to Him.
