“My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them” (Prov. 1:10).
Is that person little by little taking control of you? Before long, they are telling you what to do, how to do it, who to talk to, who not to talk to, what to say and what not to say. They have been advising you for years and years and you are in the same problem. God never told us to control each other. We are to love each other and not control one another. Even if the person who you are trying to share your life with is trying to control your life, then you need to break out of that relationship. A person giving Godly counsel doesn’t control the people that they are trying to help.
Look at the lifestyle of the counsellor. The issue is what kind of life is he/she living? They should be people who have a right relationship with God, who are in the word, seeking counsel for themselves, and growing themselves in the Lord. If not, how in the world can they counsel you. Watch it if they talk to you all day long and they never mention the Bible, Jesus, or prayer. God must be part and parcel of their lives. If that’s missing in a person’s life, then be very careful when you find that kind of situation existing.
