If somebody were to ask you to tell him or her your purpose or goal in life, what will be your response? It might take some time, especially if you haven’t thought about it before. But go ahead and try to tell or write down your purpose statement. Everything you need to know about your life, all in one place. Let me ask you a question: Can you name any aspect of your life that’s not included in the Bible? Can you name any area of your life, business, your social life, church life, your love life, finances, etc., in which you don’t need any direction from the Bible? Can you name any aspect of your life that God hasn’t spoken about?
There isn’t anything about your life that God hasn’t spoken about. Or anything that He hasn’t given direction about, that He doesn’t have some laws to protect you from destroying and ruining your life. For example, if you want to live longer, the Bible says; “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you” Ex 20:12 (NIV).
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” -which is the first commandment with a promise – 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Eph. 6:1-4 NIV).
