“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. (John 10:11-13).
Many people still believe that there’s something they can do for the Lord. But sheep are committed to the shepherd because the shepherd provides for them – protects them, feeds and cares for them and leads them wherever they need to go. The good shepherd, Christ Jesus, is dependable. Many people have friends with whom they can experience good things in life, or if they have got difficulties in life, they have somebody to share them with.
All of us who have friends that we thought we could depend upon, but somehow, they prove not to be very dependable when we need them the most. Childhood friends grow up and drift apart, adult friends are too busy to engage. But Jesus Christ is our good shepherd who is always available. Maybe your friends were dependable in some ways but somehow not dependable. The truth is none of us can be adequate enough to meet all of people’s needs. God sent His son Jesus Christ to shepherd our souls. We are not living the Christian life alone; we are not abandoned.
