Insightful, Biblical Devotions

“Men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth” (Luke 21:26).

People’s hearts will fail them for fear, looking at the things that are going on in this world. Instead of people having hope, which is a positive view of the future, they are having fear and anxiety for the future. Because of the lack of hope, people’s hearts are failing them for fear. If you pay attention to what’s happening in the world today, I don’t think anybody can argue that people are more hopeless than they have been in the past. But don’t allow fear to be instilled in your heart when there is crisis. The unbelievers live in fear because they don’t know God. They don’t have promises that God is going to supply all their needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19). They don’t have promises that if you have sown then God is going to cause you to reap a hundred-fold. They don’t have the same promises that we have, therefore, I can understand to a degree, the unbelievers’ actions in this world.

Christians should not live-in fear. Faith and fear are opposite. Jesus said, in the last days people’s hearts will fail them for fear of all the things that are happening here on this earth. There are people that are dying because of fear. There are people that are making foolish decisions because of fear. When unbelievers are in fear and panicking, Christians should recognize that all these are temporary and that, things are going to turn around. We should take advantage of crisis and spread the good news of hope to unbelievers. We operate in faith when everybody else is panicking. As Christians, our hope should be in God. We should not have our trust in this world system so that if there is crisis we start operating in fear.
