The word of God is truth. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17). The word of God is spirit, and it is life. “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). God’s word is so powerful, it illuminates our minds. That means it enables us to see and comprehend rightly. As you allow God’s Word into your heart through diligent study, constant meditation, and applying it to your life, you will move to a higher level in your walk with God. You will live a purposeful life.
The Bible says the entrance of your word illuminates my mind. Illumination is what the Holy Spirit does to us when we open the word. Every one of you has the Holy spirit in him or her in order to illumine your mind so that you will be able to understand. “The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple” (Ps. 119:130). If you read the Bible regularly, and apply it to your life, it will change your lifestyle.
If you are a Christian and you want to live a backsliding life, then you will neglect the Bible as much as possible. So, let me ask you this question, how often do you read it? Once a week? Or when you go to church and read it together with the congregation? Is it a part of your daily diet?
Take time to hear God speak to your heart. Seek God’s presence and direction. There’s not a single thing that you can tell me that’s more important in your daily life than your personal private devotion with the son of God in the word of God. We need to cultivate intimacy with God (Mark 1:35).
