“He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God” (John 1:11-13).
Not everyone is a child of God. There is a way by which we become children of God. You become a child of God by receiving Christ as your Lord and personal saviour. Not everyone rejected our Lord and saviour Jesus when He came to this earth. There were some who received Him and welcomed Him: and the Bible says, to them Jesus gave the right to become children of God. People fall into two categories. There are those who are the children of God and those who are not.
“Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God” (John 1:13). We can only become children of God when we respond positively to the way God has provided. It’s only then, that we become children of God in the depth and intimacy of the true parent-and-child relationship. “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Rom. 8:14). The Holy Spirit leads and guides us to live lives of Holiness. Lives that are pleasing in God’s sight. He leads us to walk in the Spirit so that we will not fulfil the desires of the flesh. We must be led and controlled by the Spirit. Although, we are being led, we are still responsible to follow proactively. The process of following the Holy Spirit’s leadership and being led is evident that we are the children of God.
