If you want to learn something about prosperity, you can go to a person who is homeless, and you can learn about somethings not to do. You may see some behaviours and some actions that have caused the situation that the homeless person is in, and there may be some benefits, but you don’t want to go to a homeless person to get financial advice, you want to go to someone who is successful in these areas. 6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Cor. 10:6, 11).
These lessons are not about people who lived four thousand years ago and they have no applications to us today. The stories are ancient, but the issues remain as timely as ever.
These scriptures were written for us today so that through them we can learn not to commit adultery, not to do the things that David did that were not good, and to do the positive things that He did and thereby gain lessons that we apply to ourselves. The Bible is brutally honest about people. If somebody was writing a biography, they might cover up some things, but the Bible doesn’t cover up anything. It shows every little worth and every little blemish. There’s no air brushing to cover up blemishes on any of these characters. These lessons from scripture, if learnt will keep us from making serious mistakes and encourage us. For example, in 1 Sam. 17, David killed Goliath by totally trusting God and believing in God. You can learn lessons from that and apply that to your life. I encourage you to take God’s word seriously and apply it to your life on a daily basis.
