“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” (Heb. 4:7).
Just as the Children of Israel’s frequent difficulties stemmed from not obeying God’s voice, so too do most of the pains, hurts and sufferings in our lives result from failing to respond obediently to God’s voice. It’s possible to avoid unnecessary suffering by listening to God. If you don’t listen to God, you are going to listen to somebody else’s writing or radio and TV. What will happen is that you will be easily deceived and be drifted into sin because the Bible is the truth. All so called truths depend on whether they contradict the word of God or not. If I believe the Bible and I listen to what God says and listen to Him purposefully, I will follow what He says. Otherwise, I will follow other people and be drifted into sin and then give unnecessary excuses for my sin.
Some even go to an extent of picking and choosing what part of the Bible they want to follow. They have become the judge of the Bible, picking and choosing portions as true or false. But the Bible is entirely true (John 17:17). If you read the Bible and think that not all of it is true, you will choose only the parts that agree to how you want to live. You will naturally choose what suits your desires and the way you want to live. If you don’t listen to God, you are not only going to live in sin, but you are going to hurt other people. If you don’t listen to God, you will make unwise and disastrous decisions and hurt other people. Think about how many Christians are hurting each other. Even some pastors have destroyed many people’s lives.
