“But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favour” (Gen. 39:21 ESV)
Have you ever been accused of something that you didn’t do? Have you ever had people believe that you did it, even though you didn’t? You may look at your situation and say, “God this is unfair to me”. But look at Joseph who was falsely accused and imprisoned. Joseph had repeatedly resisted the advances of Potiphar’s wife. It hurts, especially when you made a determined effort not to do it. You successfully avoided the temptation, but now everyone is accusing you of giving in and you have no way of proving your innocence. Joseph had diligently served Potiphar and faithfully managed his household. He had done nothing wrong. But he was thrown into prison.
He could have said, God where are you? But He was faithful to God. He came from no hope as a prisoner and became the Prime minister of Egypt. And so, when I look at how things have been unfair to me and my loved ones, I recall and think about Joseph. I think about how the race of life can be rough and full of troubles. We may live perfect lives, but the world will still falsely accuse us of wrongdoing. This shouldn’t surprise us: they did it to Joseph, and they did it to Jesus. The world may persecute us, but God will never forsake us. “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favour.”
