“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood” (Acts 20:28).
Paul urged the elders of Ephesus to take heed to all the flock over which the Holy Spirit had made them overseers. It was Jesus’ last command to Peter that he should feed His lamb and His sheep and take care of His sheep (John 21: 15-19). The very word pastor in (Eph. 4:11) is the Latin word for shepherd. It’s a pity to find people thinking that they are the captain of their destiny, I’m the master of my life, you see them leading their lives independent of God. God never intended us to be self-centred, leading our own lives. You need a shepherd to direct you.
God has a plan for our lives. Your story began before you were born. You may say how can that be? God said in Jeremiah 1:5 that He had already ordained a prophet. It was before Jeremiah was born. God has a purpose for you. Not just after you go to school, or when you find your talent and you develop it. No, from the womb. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jer. 1:5).
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph. 2:10)
