The Jews approached Jesus and asked Him, is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? 15 Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?” But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, “Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see it.” 16 So they brought it. And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” 17 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Mark 12:15-17). We were created in the image of God, we belong to God, so we must have time for Him, listen to Him and learn from Him. Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and give to God what’s God’s. But many are giving everything to Caesar and have forgotten about God. Seek God first, His kingdom and righteousness (Matt. 6:33).
Christ advises us to be engaged first in one particular thing which is necessary. God created us to glorify Him and have fellowship with Him. Christ used the story of Mary and Martha to advise us on the most important activity of the Christian (Read Luke 10:38-42). Mary had the desire to sit at the feet of Jesus and to listen to Him. Do you have the desire to do the same? Or your desire is to sit at the ‘feet’ of your business, education, career, job, TV, mobile phone, friends etc. Mary stopped serving and sat at the feet of Jesus to have fellowship with Him. You may say that it’s not fair to stop serving but let me tell you that it’s a matter of choice.
