For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was” (James 1:23-24).
They are the kind of listeners who sit and hear the word and walk away and forget it. Churches today are full of people who are passive listeners. They hear the word of God, but they do not listen with the intention of applying it to their heart. Do you go to church to purposefully listening so that God can do something new in your life? Or do you go to church, and you are just a passive listener? Ask yourself: “if I’m a passive listener how do I change that and become a purposeful listener?” If you want to be what God wants you to be then learn how to listen to God and teach your children and friends how to do so. Remember you can’t teach them if you yourself don’t know how to listen to God. The very source of my confident, courage, peace and joy is the fact that very early in my Christian life I learned how to listen to God.
Doing the will of God for your life is the most wonderful life there is. It’s the life of joy, peace, happiness and confidence, because in the midst of troubles you know He is there with you, and in the midst of those trials there is still peace. You are secure in Him because He is with you at all times. It’s a life of Joy because you know your sins are forgiven and your name is written in the lamb’s book of life. God answers your prayer, and He loves you unconditionally. A life pleasing to God and centred on Jesus Christ. It’s a life of separation. You don’t live like how unbelievers live. You live a life that makes an impact because your righteousness and obedience will make an impact on other people. It’s a progressive journey. It’s not just about making an instant decision and that is it. We are continuously listening to Him and growing all the time.
