1 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Cor. 6:1-2)
There should be no excuses for the neglect of life’s most important thing. The gospel requires urgent response and yet people make excuses. Many people have heard the gospel many times inviting them to partake in God’s Kingdom benefits, but they continue to refuse such great offer by using vain or empty excuses to reject God’s grace. Sadly, the gospel is rejected by many people who go to church and hear the message of the cross time and time again.
It is a privilege to hear the gospel, but they receive the grace of God in vain and do not profit from the word because they don’t mix what they hear with faith. “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it” (Heb. 4:2). Many are not mindful of the things of God because they have set their minds on earthly things rather than things above. Read this parable (Luke 14:15-24) spoken by Jesus that pictures invitation to the heavenly feast and the excuses made by those invited.
