Believers Are Urged To Turn Their Light On In The World

“Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.” (Isa. 60:1)

All Christians must arise and shine because our light has come. Our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ has given us light to turn on around the globe. He is the word, and this same word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, which enables us to shine even in the greatest darkness (Ps. 119:105; 27: 1-2; Mic. 7:8). When you become a Believer, Christ told His disciples: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.   In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mat. 5:14-16), We are the light of this world and we must, therefore, be shining in our homes, communities, neighbourhoods, schools, colleges, workplace, among our friends, colleagues, families and the world at large.

We are the representatives or ambassadors of Christ and our task is to plead with sinners to be reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:18-20). Should we shine now? Yes, because our light has come. “You are the light of the world”, meaning we are already the light of this world. He didn’t say that our light will come in the future or we will have the light later in our lives. He said: “Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.” We’ve seen in Bible time, how Christ and His disciples impacted the world.  They went about doing good and filling everywhere with the gospel (Acts 5: 28; 10:38). I don’t think the same has been done in this day and age.  For the majority of Christians, their lights are not so shining in this era. If you have received Christ as your Lord and saviour, then you have His light now and must turn it on. If you haven’t received Him, then you live in darkness and you must, therefore, receive His light now. Your light is in Christ. He is the light to those who live in darkness. Receive Him now so you can arise and shine in every aspect of your life.
