“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22).
We are here with a purpose in mind, and that purpose is to live the life of Jesus Christ. This life is a warm-hearted intimate and personal involvement in the lives of people who are hurting and who desperately need to know the truth, to feel it through you, to hear it through you and to see it in your life that Jesus Christ cares for them.
How do you get involved in the lives of people?
- You are to love others. Loving others is the great commandment. Love is not love until you give it (John 3:16), Jesus said, this commandment I give you that you love one another. And the greatest commandment is we love God with all our hearts, and loving others as ourselves. Who else do you love besides your family? Loving others is a great commandment. We can all begin here. Don’t think His gift is a treasure to keep. You are to share His love.
- Witnessing to others. Think about the great commission (Mat. 28:18-20). Sharing our faith by telling what Jesus has done for us. The instruction He gives you is not instruction until you follow it.
- Serving others. That is ‘the great commitment’. Jesus said He came to offer Himself as a servant, even unto death. He humbled Himself to become a servant. Loving others, witnessing to others, and serving others. If you and I are not going to do these three things, I want to ask you, can you justify your continued existence on earth? Somebody’s life is going to be different because you have been there in their lives. One of these is going to be greatly blessed of God. Not the one who simply hears instructions, but the one who hears and carries out what they hear. Be the doer of the word.
