Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser
Have you ever wondered what truly captures God’s attention? In a world that praises appearances and achievements, what does it take to rise higher in God’s eyes? Throughout the Bible, promotion and exaltation by God are consistently tied not to status, appearance, or outward accomplishments, but to the condition of one’s heart. While people are often impressed by external qualities, Scripture emphasises that God looks beyond appearances, searching for hearts that are pure, humble, and fully devoted to Him. So, what does God see in your heart? Is it humility, obedience, or courage? This article explores the fact that true advancement in God’s sight begins inwardly. God promotes those whose hearts align with His purposes and character. Be blessed as you read!
God looks at the heart. The Lord knows your heart. “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). The Lord does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the Lord sees the heart.” What’s your heart attitude and relationship with God? God looks at your heart to promote you, so keep your heart sensitive to Him. The giants in your life won’t stand a chance as you continue to trust God and remain loyal to Him. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). God is looking at your heart, and if he can find you loyal to him, he will promote you. The word “loyal” in this text of scripture doesn’t mean sinless or problem-free. It means someone whose heart is fully committed to the Lord, a person who is seeking God with their whole heart.
God is actively watching over the earth and is ready to intervene, demonstrating His strength for those who are devoted and loyal to Him. He will promote you because of your loyalty. You don’t need to be a silver vessel to be promoted; you just need to be a surrendered one. It’s not about your ability; it’s about your availability that God values. God is looking for people who will prioritise Him in their lives. Your response to the Lord should be, “Look no further! Here I am! I’m turning my life over to You with my whole heart.” If you genuinely do that, you will be promoted, and you’ll see God’s blessings come to fruition in your life. Once you begin to seek the Lord and He releases His anointing on you, you will be like a cork: even if you are placed at the bottom of a lake, you will still rise to the surface. It doesn’t matter what obstacles you face. You’re like cream – you will always rise to the top! If you seek God with your whole heart, the eyes of the Lord will find you.
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). He’s looking for a person like that. He will overlook everyone in your nation, village, and city just to find you. Once He locates you and pours His power into your life, He will elevate you to new heights. God will release His blessings through you into the world; it’s only a matter of time. Prepare your heart to seek the Lord. He is not looking for people solely based on talent, education, or natural abilities. While He doesn’t oppose such people, He also doesn’t rely on them. What God seeks is a heart that longs for Him. God promotes individuals based on the state of their hearts. If you hunger and thirst for righteousness, you will be filled. To hunger and thirst for righteousness ultimately means yearning for God.
" God is looking at your heart, and if he can find you loyal to him, he will promote you. "
Those who sincerely seek the Lord – the true King of kings and Lord of lords, rather than a false god created by their own imaginations – will find Him and be filled to overflowing with joy, peace, happiness, and genuine contentment. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). You won’t only be satisfied and have your needs met, but you’ll also be filled with the power, presence, and provision of God. He will pour into you and enable you to be a blessing to others. God is looking to promote people. God looks at the heart. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, stay faithful, and God will promote you. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Let’s relate this to the workplace. “Employees, be obedient to them that are your employers according to the flesh with fear and trembling in singleness of your heart as unto Christ. Not with eyeservice as men pleasers but as the servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart with good will. Doing service as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that whatsoever good thing any man does the same shall he receive of the Lord whether he be bond or free” (Ephesians 6:5-8). God looks at the heart and rewards or promotes us accordingly. The Bible instructs servants or employees to serve their masters or employers faithfully and with a good attitude. Some may wonder, “Why should I do that? They won’t notice my attitude or performance anyway.” However, the Bible clearly states that the reason for our diligence should not be the recognition from people, but rather the acknowledgement from God.
The Lord rewards or promotes us for the way we serve others; it doesn’t matter if our deed is large or small. Even our smallest acts of kindness will be rewarded. “If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward” (Matthew 10:42). He looks at the heart and rewards us accordingly. Understanding this keeps us from being servants to man (1 Corinthians 7:23). If our service is really unto the Lord (Ephesians 6:7), then we will not be motivated by the threats of others. God is our source, and our service is to Him. The manager may authorise your pay or salary, but it is God who promotes us. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another (Psalms 75:6-7). Those who serve others as unto the Lord with goodwill from the heart will shine like the sun. “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear” (Matthew 13:43).
The Bible says don’t serve with eyeservice, as men pleasers, but as the servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart with goodwill. It is true that the Lord provides us with overall goals and direction for our lives. However, doing a good job for our bosses, managers, or supervisors is also part of His will. Every task we undertake as believers should be performed for the glory of God. Christians can approach their work with sincerity, even when serving those who may not share their values, because their service is ultimately directed towards their heavenly Master, Christ, rather than merely their earthly employers. Regardless of who we are or who we work for, we should complete each task with joy, integrity, diligence, and energy. We represent the Lord, and others will form their opinions of Him based on what they observe in us. There are countless practical ways we can fulfil God’s will in our daily relationships and actions. It would seem logical that until we begin to fulfil God’s will in these small yet important ways, there is no point in the Lord showing us His long-term will and promoting us (Luke 16:10-12).
