“It is written,” he said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it ‘a den of robbers” (Mat. 21:13).
Christ stated categorically what His house should be called. It must be called the house of prayer. The house of God is a house of prayer. It is a holy place for cooperate worship and prayer, as well as individual prayer. The church is the house of God, and for the believer in Christ, your body is also the house of God, because you are the temple of the Holy Spirit. “19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Cor. 6:19-20). The house of God is a place set apart for prayer. Praise and worship are all prayer.
In His house, He gives us instructions and reveals things to us. He hears our requests and petitions as we communicate with Him. Your prayer closet and the church are not ordinary places. They are where God dwells and meets His people. God inhabits the praises of His people. Your body is a special temple of God. God is always with us (Heb. 13:5, Mat. 28:20), but until you create an atmosphere for Him, you will not be aware of His presence. Even though you may be in the same house with your spouse and children, if you don’t communicate and do things together, you will not be aware of each other’s presence. The presence of God is secured and retained by prayer. The prayer closet is for individual prayer. The church or the house of God is for mutual, cooperate prayer.
