“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:11-13)
Everyone in the kingdom has got a specific work to do, to bring glory to God and to draw people to Christ. How will you know what to do for the Kingdom? You must listen to God. To hear God’s voice, you must:
- Deal with the issue of sin.
You cannot live anyhow if you want to hear God’s voice. If I’m asking about how God thinks about something in my life, I can’t be playing with or tolerating any wilful sin in my life. I can’t be living anyhow. I’m asking for holy direction for my life, I can’t be having sinful attitudes, habits and conducts that contradict who we are in Christ Jesus.
- Surrender your desires.
This is what I want, this is my desire, but Lord I want to be able to submit that and become neutral in my thinking and neutral in my desires. I really want what you want more than what I want, because I know that if what I want is not what you want, what you want is better for me than what I want.
- Exercise patience.
Patience simply means I refuse to rush ahead of God. I refuse to rush in until I have clear direction. Patience says I’m willing to wait until I know that I have heard from God, until I know that this is His choice, this is His way.
